Applying Online to Become a New Voter
To start your online voter application, first, visit services.nidw.gov.bd and create an account. Go to the registration page and fill out the form with your name, date of birth, and captcha, then click on the “Submit” button.
Applying Online to Become a New Voter
Step 1: Account Registration
To begin the online voter application process, visit services.nidw.gov.bd and register an account. Go to the account registration page and fill out the form with your name, date of birth, and captcha. Click on the “Submit” button to create a new account.
You will be asked to verify your account using a valid mobile number. Updates about your NID card will be sent to this number via SMS. Additionally, this number will receive OTPs for logging into your NID account in the future.
Mobile Number Verification
At the mobile number verification step, you will need to input a Bangladeshi mobile number. After entering the number, click the “Send Message” button. A 6-digit OTP will be sent to the provided mobile number for verification.
If you don’t receive the OTP on your phone the first time, you can usually request a resend by tapping on the option that says “Resend” or similar. Sometimes delays can happen due to network issues or server errors.
Step 1: Username must be at least 8 digits. You can use numbers alongside English letters to make your username unique. If you see Username Already Exists, try changing your username to make it unique.
Note: Keep this username and password written down somewhere safe. You’ll need them later to download your ID card.
Step 2: Complete your profile with personal information.
After registering for a new voter card account, log in with your Username and Password. Once logged in, you will see a dashboard like the one below.
Personal Information To submit your personal information to the NID Server, click the Edit button first. In the initial state, there will be no options to write in the fields. When you click on Edit, all fields will turn red to take input.
In the step of completing personal information, select your name (in Bengali), English name (will automatically appear), gender, blood group, registration number, date of birth (will automatically appear), and birthplace.
When creating an account, the name and date of birth you provided in English will be automatically set and cannot be changed.
If there is any mistake in your English name or date of birth when creating the account, you should cancel this account and create a new one using a different mobile number with the correct information.
Father’s Information After filling in your own information, you will be asked to provide your father’s information. Now, you need to provide your father’s name (in Bengali and English) and your father’s NID card number. You can optionally provide your father’s voter number if requested.
- Father’s Name in Bengali (mandatory)
- Father’s Name in English (mandatory)
- Father’s NID Card Number (optional)
- Father’s Voter Number (optional)
- Year of Death (if deceased)
If the father is deceased, tick the box for deceased and enter the year of death. All fields marked with a red (*) must be filled in.
Mother’s Information
Similarly, you must fill out the mother’s information fields. It is mandatory to provide the mother’s name in both Bengali and English. Providing the NID card number and voter number is optional, but it is good to provide the NID Card number. If deceased, be sure to enter the year of death.
Information to be provided for Mother:
- Mother’s Name in Bengali (mandatory)
- Mother’s Name in English (mandatory)
- Mother’s NID Card Number (optional)
- Mother’s Voter Number (optional)
- Year of Death (if deceased)
Fill out the form with the mother’s information in the same way as for the father. No mistakes can be made when applying for a national identity card. If there is an error on the ID card, it will be a hassle to correct it and apply for a voter ID in time.
Guardian’s Information
Provide your guardian’s information. Typically, it is appropriate to provide the information for either the father or the mother as a guardian. If someone else is your guardian, you can provide their information as well. Show their name and national identity card number as a guardian.
Next, you will fill out the elder brother/sister’s information. This is an optional field. You can choose not to provide it, which will not be a problem.
Marital Status
If you are unmarried, select Unmarried from the dropdown menu. If you are married, you must mention the name of your spouse. You have the option to provide information for multiple spouses. If the spouse is deceased, you must enter the year of death.
Verify the information once it is recorded to see if there are any errors. If everything is correct, click on the next button.
Step 3: Other Information
Other fields must be filled out in the appropriate fields such as educational qualifications, occupation, and religion. If the applicant has any physical disabilities, they must be selected in the disability field.

You need to provide information about your current and permanent addresses. It’s important to fill out this step carefully. First, select the country where you currently reside. Since we are applying from Bangladesh, select Bangladesh as the current country.
It’s crucial to select your voter address carefully. If your current and permanent addresses are different, select the address where you want to vote as your voter address.
Choose the address as your voter address where your name will appear in the voter list. You will need to vote at this address during elections.
Current Address: Select your current address. You may also provide your permanent address in this section if it differs from your current address. There is no problem if your current and permanent addresses are the same.
If your current and permanent addresses are different, select the division, district, upazila, union, etc. based on your address.
Please select your current address:
Choose the correct address for your current location. If your current address and permanent address are the same, you can provide that information. If they are different, please fill out the details such as division, district, upazila, union, etc., according to your current address.
Selecting an address is an easy task. Click on the division tab to see all divisions of Bangladesh. Then, when you click on the district, you will see the districts within your division. From there, select your district from the dropdown menu sequentially.

Step 5. Submit Application
Click the ‘Submit’ button to submit your application. Ensure all your information is correct before final submission in this step.
If you believe you’ve made a mistake somewhere, you can go back by pressing the back button to the previous step. Recheck your correct information and then submit your application.
Step 6. Download Application Copy
Once your online application for new voter registration is submitted, you’ll see a button in front of you to download the application summary or voter registration copy. Click on the download button to download your application.
Print this application copy and take it with the necessary documents to your local Election Commission office. In the Upazila Election Office, you will be asked to submit this voter registration copy and apply for a new ID card.
If you find the online process for applying for a new national identity card difficult, you can directly apply for a new voter ID card at the Election Commission office.
Collection of Voter Registration Form
You must go to the Upazila Election Office in the area where you want to vote. Collect the application form for a new NID card from the responsible officer. The form for new voter registration is known as Form-2. The voter registration form will look similar to the image below:
If you need further assistance with filling out the forms or any other queries, please let me know how I can assist you further.
Each form has a unique form number. This form/slip number is used later to obtain the ID card. You cannot use a photocopy of the form. If you make a photocopy, you will have two forms with the same form number. Only one form with a serial number can be submitted.
Fill out the Voter Registration Form
After collecting the application form for a new ID card from the Upazila Election Commission office, fill it out with correct information. I mentioned earlier that photocopying the voter registration form is not allowed. Now I am saying to take a copy of the new voter form in hand. Because one form can only be used once.
It is not advisable to tamper with the form. If you have two copies of the same form and one is incorrectly filled out for any reason, you can cancel it and use the other. This is based on my personal experience.
Submitting the Application Form and Documents
After filling out the Voter Registration Form (Form-2) with correct information, attach the necessary documents and submit them to your Upazila Election Office. If you don’t know what documents are required along with the application for a new national identity card, check what documents are needed to apply for a new ID card.
Taking Photo and Providing Biometric Information
Once your application is submitted to the Upazila, authorized officers will verify and select the submitted application and documents. If everything is correct, you will be called to take your photo. Currently, mobile phones are used to inform about taking photos, fingerprinting, and retina scanning.
Downloading the National Identity Card
Whether applying for a new national identity card online or offline, you need to visit the election office to take a photo and provide biometric data. If everything is correct in the application and the submitted documents, you will receive approval for your application within 15 to 21 days of submitting your photo and fingerprint.
How long does it take to approve the ID card application?
Once the application for the ID card is completed with the photo, fingerprint, and retina data, the voter ID application is submitted completely. Approval of the application usually takes 2 to 3 weeks from submission. However, there may be some delay during election periods.
What if I don’t have an educational certificate?
For an ID card application, you need any board exam certificate. However, if someone has not completed their education, they can apply with a passport/driving license and digital birth registration certificate. In this case, additional documents may be required, such as an affidavit or inheritance certificate.
Which voter area will I choose?
Select the voter area where you want to vote. Choose that area as your voter area. Your name will appear in the voter list of that area when you select your voter area during the application.
